Warmia and Masuria is a land famed for its turbulent history, after which the remaining number of interesting sights.

Gietrzwałd
A good place to start sightseeing is The Marian Shrine of Our Lady - Sanctuary in Gietrzwałd known for its appearances in 1877, the shrine is frequently visited every year by pilgrims, especially during the pilgrimage.



Olsztyn - Capital of Warmia and Masuria
In Olsztyn deserve attention: Gothic High Gate, Old Town Hall, Castle of Warmia Chapter (which in the years 1516 to 1521 resided Copernicus) and many other objects. Must stay in the Old Town. Indeed, it has a unique atmosphere. Olsztyn in summer becomes the center of cultural events taking place within the cycle "Olsztyn Summer of Art". Events that attract participants from across the Polish audience to "Sing Poetry" and "Blues Nights". During the ongoing week Folklore Days week, each year presents the teams from different parts of the world. Interested parties can also listen to organ concerts and chamber music. Every visitor more or less demanding, surely find something interesting for themselves.



Gothic Castles Trail
Warmia and Masuria is a land of medieval castles. Almost in every major city in the region you can see the distinctive red brick buildings built in the hills and in curves of local rivers. The picturesque landscape of hills and well preserved fortified castles take you 600 years back in time. The history of these lands, conquered over the years by the Teutonic Knights, left a lot of monuments, castles, fortresses, which are worth seeing. Bartoszyce, Ketrzyn, Lidzbark Warmiński, Olsztynek, Nidzica, Malbork (pictured below) are just a few locations on the map seasoned traveler.



Canal Highlands - Elblag
Tired of sightseeing, you may relax while canoeing on the river Krutynia or cruising on a ship through a unique in the world The Highlands Elblag Canal. It combines the lake Piniewo and lake Druzno, bridging system of locks and the ramp about 100 meter difference in the levels of their bodies. Like a hundred years ago, the same today, only the Highlands-Elblag Canal boats "sail" across the grass, beating ramps (which is five) on special wheelchair.




Wolf's Lair in Gierloz
One of the most interesting places in the region is located near the Ketrzyn in Gierłoża "Wolf's Lair" (Wolfsschantze). During the war it was the secret headquarters of Adolf Hitler's. "Wolf's Lair" is aiming for more than a dozen masked band bunkers scattered throughout the forest. They were discovered by the Allies until 1945. Concrete walls and ceilings with a thickness of over 6 meters secured against possible air raids. This monumental building still has a huge impression.
